Hanging Rock Winery - Jim Jim Chardonnay 2019
The Macedon Ranges is arguably Australia’s coldest grape growing region. It is cold by world viticulture standards, producing wines that have a lot in common with the cooler regions of France and New Zealand and bearing little similarity to those of the warmer parts of Australia where this variety is often grown.
The Macedon Ranges is very well regarded for its Chardonnay. Being a cold climate the wines produced in the region tend to be elegant yet powerful and have a fantastic structure.
All care was taken to make sure that this estate grown Chardonnay is the best it could be. The wine was fermented in French oak barrels and carefully batonaged regularly. It then spent a further 12 months in new and used French oak barrels. Approximately 50% of the wine went through malolactic fermentation. Only 31 dozen were made.
Colour: Mid straw/ pale gold.
Nose: Hints of butterscotch and melon with a slight grassy undertone
Palate: Fresh and zesty upfront with undertones of butter and rich cream. The pallet is very long and complex.
